The middle weeks of a campaign are always a bit less exciting than the opening—but that hasn’t slowed you down much! Thanks to the great job you’ve been doing spreading the word, we’ve unlocked yet another stretch goal, just two days after the last one. Your Numenera book is getting a premium upgrade, with a lustrous foil cover that won’t be available to non-backers!

You also chose this sticker design, which we’re adding to the rewards of all backers, regardless of pledge level, as a free bonus reward.

This campaign is really turning into something big—and like all big campaigns, that’s because of the backers. We work hard to spread the word, but there are thousands and thousands of gamers out there that we will never be able to reach. But you can! Campaigns really soar when the backers enthusiastically share news about them.

Over a billion years and eight prior worlds, every element of life on earth has been shaped, molded, and reformed, often time and time again. The ancients affected the creatures of this world in ways large and small. Their goals and purposes are long-forgotten and inscrutable—and the results often weird, mysterious, and frightening.

Beasts of the Amber Archive introduces dozens of all-new Ninth World creatures. And it does more: it helps you use those creatures to craft exciting, immersive, and memorable encounters, with detailed lore, secret knowledge, lair maps, ideas for interactions, and alternate abilities. It’s more than a bestiary—it’s a helpful guide for bringing the Ninth World to life at your game table.

So let’s have more of that! Beasts of the Amber Archives is already a hardcover book, but let’s make it even heftier. For this stretch goal we’ll add another dozen or so all-new creatures to this awesome, inspiring bestiary. We’ll unlock this expansion when we get to 2725 backers!

This goal is very likely to take us over a special threshold: $517,255. That was the funding total for the original Numenera crowdfunding campaign, way back in 2012. It was a massive record at the time—no RPG had ever funded above $100,000. That campaign founded Monte Cook Games, and we’ve never forgotten the thousands of backers who made it happen—and brought MCG into existence.

So to celebrate this special milestone—and the expansion of the Beasts of the Amber Archive—our bonus sticker is exra bonusy! Instead of a single sticker, we’re going to add a small, creature-themed sticker sheet. Which one should we make?

We’re headed into our second week of this campaign, and what a campaign it’s been so far. Over the weekend you unlocked yet another stretch goal and added yet another product to the lineup. The new Cypher Deck is funded, adding 100 brand-new cyphers to those already in the Amber Archive Deck. It’s now an available add-on, and included with backer rewards at the ALL-IN (print and PDF) pledge level. The deck is included digitally, on the Datasphere Deck Tool, for backers at the ALL-IN (PDF only) pledge level.

Your copy of Numenera will stand out from the book future gamers find in stores or order online. As a backer of this campaign, you’re helping us breathe new life into Numenera, so we’re adding special features to your book. You get an upgraded exclusive edition that won’t be widely available to anyone else!

The first upgrade will be an exclusive deluxe foil finish to the book cover. This premium cover treatment will give the book a lustrous glow. It’s going to look great on your bookshelf and your game table (and if you backed the Cypher: Faster. Easier. And Even Better! campaign, it’ll be a great match for the premium versions of the Cypher corebooks you funded). We’ll unlock this deluxe upgrade when we reach 2600 backers.

Thank you so much for continuing to spread the word and keeping this campaign going at such an incredible pace—you unlocked the Calaval’s Eyes! Deck updgrade so quickly! We’re very excited about how this new deck will affect and improve your gameplay, and super pleased to give it a premium format.

Along the way you voted for this sticker as your free bonus reward. Every backer, at every pledge level, gets these stickers! So even if we’re unlocking a goal for a reward that isn’t part of your pledge level, you get something fun anyway.

Usually single-use and frequently cobbled together in ways completely unrelated to their original intent, cyphers are bits of prior-world technology—numenera—that can serve as weapons, wearable devices, quick heals, and more. As PCs explore the Ninth World, they’ll discover—and use—cyphers.

Because they’re discovered and used frequently, having cyphers on cards is really handy. It’s easy for the GM to simply draw a card, rather than having to pull out the book and roll on a table. And for the player, getting a cypher in card format sure beats jotting down the cypher information on a character sheet, just to erase it an hour later when it’s used.

So let’s expand the cypher section of the Resource Deck—in fact, let’s expand it with so much additional content that we make a whole new deck!

The new Cypher Deck will be chock full of 100 brand-new cyphers perfect for inspiring a player, spicing up an encounter, or solving a difficult puzzle. These cyphers expand on those in the Amber Archive Deck—you’ll get 100 additional cyphers.

This Cypher Deck will be available as an add-on, and included in the rewards of every backer at the ALL-IN (print and PDF) pledge level. Backers at the ALL-IN (PDF only) pledge level will get it digitally on the Datasphere Deck Tool. We'll unlock this all-new Cypher Deck when we reach 2500 backers.

It’s only day two, but you’ve unlocked yet another stretch goal! We’re expanding the content of the Explorer’s Pack; it now gets additional items such as another patch, a couple more pencils with new pithy Ninth World messages, more stickers for your passport, more props, and another travel notebook.

(By the way, if you’re new to Numenera, maybe you’re not familiar with the greeting “iadace.” Pronounced yay-da-see, it’s a shibboleth that tells the person you’re greeting, “I am one who understands, and I recognize that you are also one who understands.” It’s used by Aeon Priests, and sometimes by travelers when they come upon a village, encounter a stranger on the road, or otherwise want to identify themselves as trustworthy, enlightened individuals to persons they suspect are of like mind.)

In addition to the Explorer’s Pack upgrade, you also voted for this sticker as your free bonus reward. Every backer, at every pledge level, gets these stickers!

Speaking of Ninth World terminology, Calaval’s eyes! is an exclamation of surprise—or a curse uttered in astonishment or anger—commonly used across much of the Steadfast and the Beyond. Calaval, of course, was the founder of the Aeon Priests, and the first Amber Pope—and the one who first unlocked the Amber Archive.

Our Calaval’s Eyes! Deck is a great game aid that prompts inspiration and helps conjure Numenera’s unique vibe. Draw a card and discover something new to add to the story, potently influencing the direction of events in large and small ways. Use it to generate ideas during game prep and at the table. (And like the Amber Archive and Calaval himself, there may be more to it than you at first imagine—other secrets may be waiting for future stretch goals to draw them forth!) You may well find this deck to be one of your favorite elements of your Numenera game!

It already has a unique presentation, with large, square cards. So let’s make it even more beautiful. With this stretch goal, we’ll upgrade the Calaval’s Eyes! Deck with premium features such as foil stamping on the card backs, upgraded paper and finish, and a deluxe box. We think the Calaval’s Eyes! Deck will be a central feature on the game table of any GM who loves a bit of inspiration on the fly, and we want to do it justice. We’ll unlock this upgrade to the Calaval’s Eyes Deck when we reach 2350 backers.
